You can drive, but I'd rather not pollute
Possibly due to the many trifles that come with driving a car to work, some falculty members at Abraham Lincoln High School have opted for different ways of getting to work. The following are some of their stories.
Name: Sanford.Siegel (math)
Mode of transportaion: bike
R.L.: Why do you bike to school?
Siegel: For the exercise, plus it’s relaxing. I don’t use gasoline, so it saves me money, is good for my health and reduces global warming
R.L.: What should others do to help reduce pollution?
Siegel: I think people should drive their cars less because we’re causing a lot of pollution and are using up a limited resource.
Name: Paul Cameli (English) Mode of transportation: MUNI
R.L.: Why do you take muni?
Cameli: It’s too far for me to walk home.
R.L.: Why do you choose not to drive?
Cameli: The world is car sick, and many have worse problems from obesity to war. Those are caused by an addiction to gasoline and a pathological desire for convenience. I really feel people who can live without a car should live without one.
Name: Luranne Drager (English)
Mode of transportation: MUNI
R.L.: Why do you take muni?
Drager: I don’t need a car in San Francisco since public transportation is good.
R.L.: Why do you choose not to drive?
Drager: I don’t want to have a car because I do not want to be environmentally detrimental. Oil leads to many wars and I oppose the development of oil extraction from the artic slope due to how it destroys the wild life there.
Name: Barnaby Payne (assistant principal)
Mode of transportation: walking
R.L.: Why do you walk home?
Payne: For exercise and to clear my mind and thoughts. The cold foggy air of the sunset serves to clean my lungs and provide a laser-like focus on my daily duties.
R.L.: Why do you choose not to drive?
Payne: I choose not to because my schedule is very busy since I’m often at Lincoln 11 hours a day. If I didn’t take the time to exercise in the morning I wouldn’t get the opportunity to.
