New weightlifting and aerobics classes offered at Lincoln High

Two new physical education classes are being offered at Lincoln High for juniors and seniors: aerobics and weight-lifting.

Gym classes have become part of the norm, but it’s generic. Students often boast of exceptional math classes or unique science classes, but PE classes have not drawn away from the mainstream. It has never branched out until this year.

Aerobics will be taught by current gym teacher Janet Clark; students will not only do a bit of conditioning (toning), but will also taking part in an aerobic exercise to music, videos, and DVD’s. The structure is much different from a regular PE class in that it encourages students to get in shape and have fun. At the end of the year, students will produce their own routine.

The new weight lifting class will be taught by Phillip Ferrigno. Conditioning (mostly weight-lifting), anatomy, and anaerobic activity will be exercised. It’s unique because it’s specialized “in weight-lifting and [will] give you a strong and open mind. It’s more in-depth than typical classes,” coach Ferrigno said.
