Lincoln mustangs: all in this together

The Class of ‘09 is participating in the High School Musical Three spirit contest to win a trip to Disneyland or Disney World for graduation night. They are competing against other high schools across the country. The contest is held on myspace.com, where students register with their high schools to earn spirit points.

Lincoln was in 9th place last month, but recently, we have moved down to 19th place due to the lack of spirit from those at our school, and now, are now longer on the board.

Posting videos, pictures, spamming myspace inboxes, texting everyday and creating various accounts were some of the few things that people did to earn points. Others even registered their siblings to help Lincoln earn more points.

Seniors Alvin Sng and Kimberly Schagane decided to spread the word about the contest, have put time aside for the contest to create and submit videos to earn points for Lincoln.

In addition, Sng has created a website and a Facebook group dedicated to the HSM3 contest. Schagane edited all the information for the Facebook group, answered many of the quiz questions, and invited as many people as she could.

Although many people claim to be participating, our rank has only gotten lower since we reached 11th place.

It’s not a secret that many students at Lincoln actually don’t care about HSM but they are more concerned about winning the prize. .The senior class is already scheduled to have a trip to Disneyland on graduation night. Assuming Lincoln wins the contest, there would only be a decrease in admission for the seniors.

It was really hot, then it died after a while.

Some are frustrated about working hard while others aren’t helping at all. “We gave up because no one else was trying as hard as us,” Schagane informed, speaking of Alvin and her. What about the others who are unmotivated because the “leaders” of the competition have become uninterested? Schagane answered “Just because we have, doesn’t mean they should!” Over the past weeks, the hype of the contest has slowly decreased. “It was really hot, then it died after a while,” Sng mentioned. Are the seniors at Abraham Lincoln really spirited enough to win? After winning the spirit contest last year at the bell rally, one would assume so. Although, can Lincoln survive at least another month in the contest without falling too far behind the other schools?

The contest ends on November 3rd, so it isn’t over yet. Seniors still have a chance to show how much spirit they really have.
