Lauren Lau

After playing three years of volleyball, Lauren Lau steps into the spot light becoming captain of the Junior Varsity volleyball team.

Lauren Lau, 15, is a sophomore that has played volleyball since the sixth grade. During the summer before middle school, she attended a math camp that inspired students to play volleyball. When school start, Lau decided to tryout for the volleyball team at Herbert Hoover Middle School. Though she was good, she could not play until her eighth grade year.

Lau’s position of the setter volleyball helped put her in the position of captain, but it’s not the only reason. Lau has always been very dedicated to the sport. She is always first on the court and last off it. She’s always in the game, trying her best to help her team win.

“I love volleyball. I come back every year for the experience and enjoyment volleyball has to offer. Volleyball creates a favorable atmosphere,“ Lau said.

Though she is committed to volleyball, it doesn’t seem get in the way of her academic life. Lau maintains a 3.5 grade point average and also holds a volunteer job helping kids.

“I work down on Taraval and I tutor kids from kindergarten to eighth grade. I like to work with kids. It’s fun and you get to know how life is with kids now. It would also look good on my college application,” Lau said.

Lau believes without volleyball, her life would be a mess. Volleyball is the key thing that balances her life out. She looks forward seeing new players on volleyball and is definitely looking forward to playing Varsity next year.

“I have made a lot of friends through volleyball and we all form some kind of a bond. And I plan on continuing playing volleyball until the end of high school,” Lau said.
