The future of swimming

With the closing of the local Sava Pool, Lincoln’s swim team has no choice but to relocate and practice elsewhere.

The pristine waters of Sava Pool have been closed off to the public, and Abraham Lincoln High School’s swim team is no exception to the rule. Sava Pool has been closed since June 15 last year for construction, and has been set to reopen in late 2009. Without a pool to practice in, where will Lincoln’s swim team go?

At first rumors began spreading, saying that the swim team wouldn’t be able to compete or swim, or that the sport wouldn’t be happening that season.

Even physical education teacher Ali Weinhouse wasn’t sure if the team was going to happen or not. That opinion quickly changed when flyers were posted around school mentioning a mandatory meeting for all who wanted to be a part of the swim team.

Freshman Kevin Tren, a new member on the swim team, has a new challenge that does not include only swimming but where he would be swimming. He attended the meeting, and mentioned that they had told him that the team would be swimming at Balboa Pool.

The captain of th team, junior Roselin Stretpisalsilp, was informed by the coach ahead of time.

“Our coach, Mr. Pham, keeps the swimmers updated on meetings and notifes us on practice times. Most of our returning swimmers did not like the fact that we had to leave the Sava pool and go practice at a new site, because of transportation [issues].” said Strepisalsilp.

With the new location , the team is ready to go.
